Bavyeyi means “parents” in Kirundi. Jeanine named the coffee after her mother, who grew up in this same province in northern Burundi and helped her family farm there. The coffee comes from a remote stretch of mountains with volcanic soil and high ground, an area long known for its coffee.

Most of the farmers are Muslim women, working closely with the quality team on the understanding that better coffee is worth more, and that the money comes back to them.

It cups at 85 points: almond and caramel on the nose, then red apple, milk chocolate and lemonade, a hint of peach, and vanilla sitting underneath it all.
