”A Filtered coffee guide” - by Carl
For fun around Malmö, I love going around vintage and second-hand browsing. There are a great deal of vintage stores all around the city, both for clothing and furniture. I love walking around, just feeling things, and that moment when you find a new gem for the wardrobe or apartment is just priceless!
The foodie in me loves a night out, bar, and restaurant hopping. For me, Malmö is perfect for planning a multiple-stop night, walking around or on bike, hopping from spot to spot trying out different flavors and soaking up the vibes all around town is my way.
I would start the evening with a beer at Taproom, the local “waterhole” with 20+ beers of different styles on tap at all times. Moving on for dinner at Davidshallstorg, at the square there are all sorts of restaurants, a favorite is Lu, a Cantonese restaurant serving the most amazing Chinese duck. Hopping onwards, the tiramisu at Ruths a few blocks away is always a great way to end a meal.
Depending on the mood of the night, this is where drinks at a new favorite of mine, Gaji bar, concocting some really tasty combinations of flavors in their cocktails, could be on the cards.
Rarely feel the need to escape, I can stil appreciate a simple run or walk in Pildammsparken just to reflect for myself after a busy day. My favorite quiet corner is Slottsträdgården, a peaceful oasis in the heart of the city. The castle has a beautiful art museum, and the café behind Slottsträdgårdens kafé is super cute.
If there’s anything that's on everyone’s list of things to do but I could definitely recommend, that’s Ribersborg kallbadhuset. The overall ambiance by the beach is great all year round. A cold plunge after sitting in the saunas during winter is super refreshing. During the summer, a sunset walk alongside the ocean towards the Turning Torso (second highest twisted building in the northern hemisphere) while overlooking Öresund is magical.
Head over to Kaffebaren på Möllan, Möllevångstorget's local coffee corner, where Love Coffee Roasters serves up a delightful twist on traditional Italian-style espresso. Don't miss out on Love's own spot in the student city Lund either, with its commitment to direct trade with farmers and the quintessential Nordic roasting style.
On the buzzing corner of Möllevångstorget's day market and the diverse mix of cultures, Kaffebaren på Möllan is just an authentic neighborhood spot.
Malmö feels like home to me because of its diverse and inclusive community, its vibrant cultural scene, and its laid-back atmosphere. I think that's why Malmö is the quickest growing large city in Sweden—it has a unique charm that's hard to find elsewhere in this country.
I ended up in Malmö and wanting to do something here because I was drawn to the city's position in the Nordic coffee arena, having some early third-wave roasters and shops, but also being just across the bridge from Copenhagen and their scene.
I’m a “curator” at 1998 Coffee Shop . I had this dream of a coffee shop that’s vibrant and always alive and changing with connections of people and stories, combining my two favorite things: coffee and second-hand clothing happened to create this space.
So I curate the shop's collection of second-hand clothing and set the coffee selection from roasters around Europe. What I find most rewarding is connecting with people, especially being able to see and share connections that coffee and vintage clothing have with every individual that visits the shop.
If I could move to any place in the world just for the coffee scene, I would choose Tokyo, Japan. Tokyo is renowned for its eclectic and innovative coffee culture, with a plethora of specialty coffee shops pushing the boundaries of creativity and quality.
One of the most exciting shops for me is Glitch coffee, There dedication to craftsmanship and attention to detail is outstanding.
Tokyo's vibrant vintage shopping scene adds another layer of allure to the city. Quirky thrift stores in Shimokitazawa to upscale vintage boutiques in Harajuku, Tokyo's vintage shops seams like paradise.
